Classroom Projects

Dumbeta Ward is home to five primary schools. None have enough classrooms to serve their growing student populations. In some schools, more than 100 children are crowded into a single classroom. Most classrooms are in poor condition, with deeply pitted concrete floors, broken or missing window glass, and bare, unpainted walls. Some classrooms were never completed and still have dirt floors, unfinished walls, and missing ceilings. Small windows and a lack of electricity leave classrooms dark and gloomy.

For children to thrive, they need more than instruction; they need spaces that respect their dignity and nurture their curiosity. Overcrowding and poor conditions make learning especially difficult for young children. Without adequate personal space, students struggle to focus, and teachers are unable to provide individual attention to those who need it most. In overcrowded classrooms, teachers must spend more time managing behavior and less time teaching. Learning also suffers when classrooms are physically uncomfortable and unwelcoming. Children thrive in environments that foster a sense of self-worth.

For years, the community has asked for help to build new classrooms and improve existing ones. The Rafiki Village Project has responded by partnering with local communities to create cheerful and vibrant classrooms where children feel valued and eager to learn. Each classroom features large windows for natural light and fresh air, warmly painted walls decorated with educational  artwork, and new desks for every student.  With each  new classroom opens, class sizes shrink, children sit at proper desks, and teachers are finally able to give students the attention they deserve.
